What Is Wellness?

“Wellness” generally refers to a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being.  While health is a pre-requisite of being “well”, wellness is above and beyond the medical definition of “health”, the absence of detectable disease.

Our definition of wellness is a continuously developing state in which we are operating at an optimal level – physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

It is a state we naturally want to be in and strive to be in - like the sunflower naturally faces towards the sun.

It is a state of natural joy and vibrancy.

When we trust our inner wisdom and cooperate with our natural tendency, achieving wellness is effortless.

“Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices towards, a more successful existence.”– Judd Allen, PhD (National Wellness Institute, US)

“Wellness is the experience of living life with high levels of awareness, conscious choice, self-acceptance, interconnectedness, love, meaning and purpose.  Wellness is the individual’s life journey (and our society’s larger task) of taking Abraham Maslow’s concept of Self-Actualization and applying it to mind, body, spirit and our interconnectedness with other people and our environment.” – Michael Arloski, PhD

Our Approach

Often clients come to us because they are interested in healthy eating.

Indeed nutrition is an important aspect of total wellness.  We recognize that the food we eat BECOMES us - they become our blood, our cells and our body and powerfully affect our moods and thoughts.

And we also recognize that we take in life's experience in many different ways.  We are not just nourished by the foods that we eat but also the way we occupy our time, how we play and have fun, how we move our body, how we experience touch, how we connect with others, how we learn and develop ourselves etc.  All of these aspects of our life feeds us on a deeper level.

Our body's natural tendency is to maintain balance - like homeostasis.  When our life's balance is off, we naturally try to restore balance.  In the busyness of modern living, it's easy for us to look to food and material acqusition to feed the hunger of our life.  Eventually these strategies prove to be ineffective, and often counter productive.

In our coaching and consulting work we explore the balance of your life and support you to find the best way to maintain a natural state of balance with a compassionate, non-judgemental and multi-dimensional approach.

The ultimate goal is for you to restore the natural joy and vibrancy you were born to BE.
