My favourite SuperFood Breakfast Smoothie

Many of us know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  A healthy breakfast sets the tone for the day for our energy level and mood.

It's the first meal of the day after you "break" a "fast"!  Modern science has confirmed many ancient cultures have always known - we digest and absorb the best in the morning! (Ask any Chinese doctor and he/she can explain to you why...)

But so many are challenged with not having enough time or not knowing what to eat for breakfast.  And some also report that they don't "feel like" breakfast when they get up first thing and that they need something easy to digest.  And others would say they need their breakfast to be energizing but they know coffee is not good for health and they don't know what to do. 

What if you can prepare a breakfast in 5 minutes and it is easy to digest, very delicious, leave you feeling energized and in an upbeat mood, ready to take on the day, and have more antioxidants, micro-nutrients and live enzymes you could probably get from all of other meals of the day combined?

Here below is a deluxe super yummy and super nutritious smoothie that I personally love.  It has high absorbable protein, healthy essential fats, fibre, extremely high level of antioxidants and many nutrients which are missing in modern day diet.  It is raw and vegan.  It is nourishing and cleansing at the same time and there are endless possibilities to customize it.  Enjoy!

Super Berries Smoothie

Key Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of blueberries (well washed and frozen, organic if available)
  • 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of super green powder (or as scoop included)
  • 1 tablespoon of organic flax meal
  • 1 tablespoon of omega 3 6 9 oil or flax oil
  • 1 serve of raw vegan rice protein (as scoop included)
  • 8 to 12 oz (approx) filtered water
  • a few ice cubes

Popular Optional Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of raw cacao powder (chocolate in its most potent and healthy form) - highly recommended for its antioxidant and mood lifting value - great for athletes and those trying to get off coffee and caffeine in general
  • 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of Virgin Coconut Oil (adjust the flax oil used accordingly) - great for those wanting instant energy (athletes), restoring sluggish metabolism and weight loss, heart health and healthier chlolestoral level - a good quality virgin coconut oil is great for the smoothie as well as for topical use on skin....it's naturally anti-viral and anti-bacterial too...
  • a handful of organic goji berries
  • a handful of raw cacao nibs or beans (they give more chewiness to the smoothie)

Other Optional Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Himalayan Goji Juice - while I like to drink it separately as it's so delicious, putting it in the smoothie saves time!
  • a small slice of ginger and/or a pinch of cayenne pepper (both warming and help digestion)

How to make:
Pour all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.  Serve immediately.  CHEW - it is food!

You may pour the smoothie into a thermos and take it with you if you can't finish in one go.  Make sure you keep it cool by adding ice cubes and using cold water as the base.  The flax meal expands with water so it will thicken the smoothie if left for a long time.  So best is add the flax meal when you take it, or use less of it if it's easier. 

Variations: other fruits may be used instead of blueberries, e.g. papaya, kiwi, apples, etc, and you can mix berries like blueberries, rasberries and strawberries

Green coconut water and the flesh can be used together for a superb tasting and mineral rich smoothie. 

Adjust water used according to the fruit being used as the water content of each fruit is different. 

Throw in a handful of raw nuts if you want it to be more fulfilling. 

When I am not using raw cacao....

I also like to put in sesame powder sometimes - great for beautiful hair, strong bones (sesame is a great calcium source), energy and healthy elimination...

And wheat grass juice - this is a super juice for cleansing and energy - I like it with dragon fruit/green apple/kiwis... very refreshing!
