Living on air?

Sometime ago I came to learn about the existence of "breatharians".  They are people who apparently do not need to eat "food" as we know it.  They can choose to "eat "or not.  They may drink water occasionally. They are said to sustain on "prana" or air and energy.

While I had heard of "beings" who didn't need to eat from stories and myths, I did not know they do exist in today's world.

While they may not be your next door neighbour (and I don't mean aneroxics!), they exist according to people who have met them, usually in places like India and they usually practise meditation extensively and don't live the kind of life you and I live.  A western lady who has made her breatharian practicw public has probably made the concept more known to the wider world.

While I do not know the authenticity of any "breatharian" in the world, I believe humans have unbelievable potentials and we are probably not using 10% of it yet.

Einstein has already shown us nothing in the physical world is "solid" and that everything is energy (and energy can be understood as light, sound or vibration...).  So it follows that the human body is energy.  And it does seem possible that we CAN sustain on air and light.  According to breatharians this is a freer way to live as you have less attachment.

So aspiring breatharians would be going meat-free, going raw, learning to listen to the body, and meditate often... It's about letting go of attachements and becoming "lighter" and raising consciousness... Not bad!

Before you think I am going to propose a 40-day fasting and meditation program for you, let me make myself clear - no I am not proposing prolonged fasting.  At least not at this stage for myself and for my clients.  In fact any fasting WITHOUT proper guidance and preparation I do not recommend, but that would be another topic.  Most unfortunate is sometimes people take fasting as an ego's competition - see who is more "spirtual" because he/she can fast for longer...

I imagine it will take human a certain evolutionary journey to become true breatharians if that is where we want to go.  In the way the society is set up now and the way we are conditioned, we are not  connected with our mother earth which provides our foods, and we are mostly not connected with our own body.  Like Sir Ken Robinson says, we consider our body a form of transport for our mind/head... In popular culture we have a love/hate relationshop with foods - we love rare  and expensive foods - fois gras, shark's fin, truffles.... and we also are drawn to the idea of bootcamp style weight loss  often achieved by food deprivation.  Our collective consciousness is obsessed with the food/no food struggle...

There is a long way to go "food-free" and breatharian in my opinion.  If we cannot tell the difference between addiction and real nourishment, if we do not know how food nourishes and heals, if we do not accept that we have the power to heal ourselves using foods as one of the most foundational form of nourishment and medicine, how can we "let go" of the attachment to it?  We do not even know what to let go of.

But we can always progress wherever we are, and the path is not just linear.   Knowing there are people who are free from food attachment can serve as reminder to us our potential for conscious eating...

So let's go back to "food" that majority of us cannot live without...

It's only recently that the western world has rediscovered the wisdom of "Let food be thy medicine" of Hippocrates (father of modern medicine).  Our medical professionals are largely nutritionally illiterate (in US, only 6% of graduating medical students have received any formal nutritional training in the medical school).  Our public is almost as illiterate - or slightly better nowadays, which is encouraging.  (But then as my last blog shared, now these nutritionally more aware members of the public are being labelled as having "Healthy Eating Disoders" because they insist to question about the prevalent foods available to them and do not conform to what is expected of them to consume.)

Most of us don't live in a pristine environment, breathing clean air, getting natural sunlight, exercising outdoor, drinking clean water, and growing our own foods.  Let's be real, we live in a polluted environment, eat prepared foods, or buy groceries from supermarkets (if we prepare our own foods) and we are bathed in harmful electrical magnetic field in exchange of convenience.  To top it we live a gruelling pace and are stressed out a lot more than our ancestors or those enlightened masters or aspiring masters meditating in secluded natural environment...

I often wonder if a true breatharian can survive in a place like Hong Kong... <smile>  And I mean if they were to stay in the urban areas of Hong Kong.

So from where we are, and from my own struggle and observation working with my clients, I had to create an easy way for people to upgrade their food choices as foundation to health.  People are dying fasting than you can say "Eat more broccolli"... There's no time to waste...

One of the "victories" I experienced while I started to upgrade my diet to more nutritionally dense superfoods and wholefoods in general is more connection to my inner knowing (the wisdom of the "gut brain" you may say), to mother earth and a natural preference for "high vibration" foods... For example, I just had to throw out the microwave as I just could not find any reason to use that anymore.  Microwaved food tasted "dead" to me.  Increasingly I preferred "live" food.  While I still eat cooked foods (actually broccolli is a lot easier to digest when lightly cooked for example!), I prefer vegetables, fruits, avocadoes and nuts most of the time. and meat became less attractive... I used superfood raw food powders for my smoothies which is my "healthy fast food".  I can tell the difference when I am not doing it in my energy level and mental state.

Friends, colleagues and clients who have had similar experiences can easily relate to it and it is why we can't help but share this with other people.

It's unfortunate that sometimes our passion is misunderstood as marketing promotion.  But I can see why people can feel this way, because this is their reality.  We are bombarded by advertisement all the time, more so now than before.  It can leave one feeling cynical and distrustful.

One day in the past I decided to try "luring" people into choosing higher vibration food by presenting them with "healthy chocolates" in the form of raw chocolate desserts and an effective weight loss and detox program that involves no suffering and provides a do-able breakfast solution.  So far it seems to be working.  That's much more than what my vision of maximum health and joy for all is.  But that's a good start!  We've got to start somewhere!

My vision of how we can make healthier choices and transition easier to higher consciousness is just beginning to be realised.  Would you like to hold the vision with me together?  My vision is everyone living healthy, happy, balanced and fulfilled lives.

By then - do we need to eat or can we live on air?  Who knows?  Who cares?
