06-13-2010 Why I left the corporate world
I just realised today that the REAL reason why I left the corporate world was to rebel against the "centrally controlled"................
AIR CON!
What a relevation! <smile>
Seriously, after spending a weekend for a job at the Cyberport shopping arcade this weekend and being absolutely frozen (I am pretty sure the temperature was a lot lower than what our government has advised for indoor and my glasses were completely covered in mist when I stepped out of the mall and it's not hot even outside), I wonder why having sensible indoor air temperature in Hong Kong seems harder to get than universal suffrage.
Am I the only one who asks why the "centrally controlled" air con is so omipresent and omipotent?
We pride ourselves for producing a nobel prize winner who changed the whole world with fibre optic, we are a world class financial centre, we have the world's longest hanging bridge and allegedly the world's best airport...yet simple indoor air temperature control seems to be beyond our grasp...
Most foreign friends or people new to Hong Kong I met wonder how we tolerate our "centrally controlled" air conditioning.
Are you quietly suffering in an office that has "centrally controlled" air con that's too strong and wasteful? Are you patronising establishment that uses inflexible strong air con?
I think one of ways we vote is to stop supporting the establishments that tell you they cannot change anything about their wasteful air con.
I will look out for what we can do about it... What do you suggest? Post a comment
