I have a dream

(Revised Feb 2010)

I have a dream.  (In fact several...but they are all connected in a big dream)

I dream that we as a culture are as ready to invest in the health of our body, the only vechicle we have to experience the wonders of our life, as we are ready to invest in the cars we drive in or the apartment we live in...

I dream that our collective idea of "insurance" includes investing into the upkeep and optimization of this precious vechicle of us and not just some money we get as "compensation" after this vechicle has stopped running.

I dream that all food companies make how to grow wholesome and natural food in sustainable ways as their top priority instead of how to wipe out competition by patenting that which belongs to nature.

I dream that one day, the foods we can buy easily and affordably are healthy and nourishing as nature has intended.  We won't need to go to specialty "health food stores" or "health food restaurants" to get foods that are "healthy" for us - eating "healthy foods" would be the most natural thing.

I dream that in medical schools, nutrition is a compulsory subject and not an optional subject regarded like "home economics".  (Didn't the father of modern medicine Hippocrates say, "Let food be thy medicine"?)

I dream that medical researches are funded by the government and those who want real health for humanity, and not by those whose main interest is in keeping people drug dependant and sick for life.

I dream that our typical visit to our doctors is an experience of healing and empowerment and not one of disempowerment and indifference.  I dream that the average person is encouraged and given tools to take responsibility for their own health.  Afterall the original meaning of "doctor" is "the one who educates".

I dream that what Thomas Edison envisioned as the "doctor of the future" is the norm and not the exception.  He said, more than a century ago, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."

(I dream that the "future" Thomas Edison envisioned is NOW.)

I dream that governments of the world support businesses based on their level of integrity and long term benefits their businesses can create for humanity, instead of the amount of tax they can pay in the short term with no regard of how these businesses exploit natural resources and people.

I dream that holistic self care is an integral part of our schools' curriculum - nutrition, relaxation, financial health, relationship and communication, life balance, self awareness and self love...

I dream that the focus of our education is to inspire and empower, to cultivate the ability to continuously learn and develop oneself.  Afterall, in the time we are in, intellectual knowledge learnt in schools are to be obsolete by the time the students graduate.  (Why)

I dream that our students are taught all these and are faciliated to grow because their teachers are encouraged to grow and given space to develop as a person too.

I dream that in our schools teachers are assessed by how well they inspire and empower each of their student to develop as the best person they can be, rather than what  academic grades their students achieve in examinations.

I dream that policy makers are capable and willing to think beyond their term of office and short term results, making our collecitve best interest as priority.

I dream that companies place staff wellbeing as their priority because they recognize that people are the biggest assets of of any company and that happy and healthy staff are the most productive.

I dream that companies stock their pantry with healthy energizing foods and beverages, and have meditation rooms for their staff to take regular recharging breaks.

I dream that taking time to quiet down/chew food well/practise mindfulness is considered a daily necessity by our culture.

I dream that with universal practice of mindfulness humanity as a whole experience gratitude and love on a daily and moment-to-moment basis, and that the entire experience of being alive is raised to an unprecedented level.  Problems that seem impossible to solve vanish as we operate from this higher level of consciousness.  "Nirvana" or "A New Earth" (or whatever we want to call it) will be available to all.

"Our life begins to end the moment when we become silent about things that matter; and freedom has already begun to atrophy because of our inaction..."  - Martin Luther King

"The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them. " - Albert Einstein
